Dick Boss in Texas No 2 (1947 Literary Press, London) by Alfred Mazure (Maz)
Dick Boss was the Netherlands first comic book hero becoming hugely popular during the German occupation in WW2. The German propaganda machine offered Mazure safe status and a million print run if he transformed Boss into a German spy. Maz refused and his publications were banned as, amazingly, they did not suspect he was a member of the Dutch resistance. their legend lives on today

He produced the first Comic Book Price Guide for Great Britain, published fanzines including Fantasy Unlimited, Comics Unlimited, DC & Marvel Indexes and Golden Age. He was known to his many customers and friends as 'The Guv'nor', but he was much more than that - a Titan of British and US comic book fandom. |
