ACA Comix No 1: The Death’s-Head Knight (1971) signed and dated by John Byrne to the inside front cover. ACA Comics No 1 was published by The Alberta College of Art in May 1971 where John Byrne was a student. The curator of the college was producing a comics art show and asked JB to design a comics brochure to be given away at the door. At relatively short notice he wrote and illustrated a 20 page sword and sorcery story entitled the Death’s-Head Knight. Around 500 copies of ‘ACA Comix No 1’ were then printed.
John Byrne was born in Walsall and raised in West Bromwich prior to his family emigrating to Canada when he was eight years old. Our vendor suspects this copy was sent ‘home’ to a friend or family member at the time as it was signed "Best Wishes, John ‘71" to the inside front cover. It was then bought in a group of books and magazine some years later from the Malvern Flea Market and only came to light recently.
Bright, fresh covers with some minor stress creases by the spine and light rust showing at the interior staples. Clean, white pages [vfn-]
