Original Desperate Dan script (1969) from which Dudley Watkins produced the artwork, as published in The Dandy No. 1440 of June 28th 1969 and reprinted in 1972. Along with the script is a covering 2 page D.C. Thomson headed letter from Albert Barnes, the Dandy editor on whom Desperate Dan’s chin was based. The letter discusses the promotional Midget Comics which advertised the arrival of the Dandy in 1937 along with characters Nosey Parker, Nero and Zero, Invisible Dick and Spadger’s Isle. Also enclosed are the relevant Dandy comics, a DCT photocopy of the artwork and the original D C Thomson envelope.

Born in 1923,
Alan Hunter began his artistic career in the late 1950s illustrating science fiction magazines "New Worlds", "Science Fantasy" and "Nebula". He assisted in the birth of the science fiction and fantasy games magazine "White Dwarf", illustrating more than sixty issues. His artwork is published in the US, Belgium and Germany. In 1977 his fee for completing the above artwork was £1.50!
